Lesson Plan: Wicked Wildfires
Estimated Time: 45 minutes daily for 3 days
No matter where we live, our communities are at-risk of experiencing different types of natural hazards. These natural hazards, or natural events on Earth’s surface, can disrupt our ecosystems and cause tremendous damage to animals, vegetation, natural resources, and man-made communities. Specifically in Arizona, our communities experience large, destructive fires known as wildfires that spread quickly throughout woodlands, deserts and forests. These bright beats can be caused by a variety of factors, such as lightning strikes, unattended campfires, and sometimes even when humans internationally cause them. Although we cannot always prevent wildfires from happening, we can minimize the effects they may have on our community. In this lesson, students will explore the causes and effects of wildfires in order to propose solutions to protect communities from this natural hazard!
