Lesson Plan: Why Does Patty Need the Sun?
Estimated Time: 20 minutes a day for 6 days
Just like humans, the animals and plants around us are hungry... hungry for energy! The source of most of the energy on Earth comes directly from the Sun. While animals eat plants or other animals for food as their energy sources, plants use the light from the Sun to make their own source of food to get the energy they need to grow and survive. In addition to sunlight, plants depend on other things in their surroundings, including air, water and minerals (in the soil). In this lesson, students will conduct an investigation in order to develop and use models about how plants use resources to grow and survive.
