Can It Be Unmixed?

Matter describes the material or “stuff” that makes up everything around us! All states of matter, including solids, liquids and gases, can be combined in different ways. During chemical reactions, when two or more different substances or types of matter are combined, a new substance with different properties is formed. Other times, substances mix without changing permanently and can often be separated back to their original states. In this lesson, students will engage in multiple investigations to demonstrate that some substances can be mixed and separated back into their original states.
