Same or Different Stuff?

Matter describes the material or “stuff” that makes up everything around us! All states of matter, including solids, liquids and gases can be combined in different ways. During chemical reactions, when two or more different substances or types of matter are mixed, a new substance with different properties is formed. Other times, substances mix without changing permanently and can often be separated back to their original states. In this lesson, students will conduct an investigation to demonstrate that during chemical reactions, substances combine to form new substances with different properties.
