Lesson Plan: Kinetic v. Potential Energy Tug of War
Estimated Time: 30 minutes
Energy is defined as the ability to do work. There are two general categories that energy can fall under, potential and kinetic. When something is in motion it has kinetic energy. When energy is being stored it is referred to as potential energy. Since energy can not be created or destroyed, energy is transferred from one type of energy (potential) to another (kinetic). In this investigation, students will discern between the kinetic and potential energy in technologies created by humans.
