Lesson Plan: It All Matters to Atom
Estimated Time: 45 minutes
Did you know that there are chemical reactions happening all around us? From the plants outside your window taking in carbon dioxide, water, and light to produce sugars and oxygen, to the production of rust on a nail, from the reaction of iron, oxygen, and water, chemical reactions are everywhere! During a chemical reaction starting substances, known as reactants, are changed into ending substances, known as products. Throughout this process, the atoms of the reactants are being rearranged, as the reactants are changed into products. In this lesson and the It All Matters to Atom CONNECT lesson plan series, students will develop and use models to demonstrate that atoms and molecules can be combined or rearranged through chemical reactions to form new substances with the total number of atom types staying the same
