Boom! Crash! Splash! Watch out!

From volcanic eruptions to earthquakes, natural hazards occur from natural processes that can make drastic changes to Earth’s surface and cause destruction to buildings, roads and potential loss of life. These natural hazards can even occur close to home! For instance, severe weather events like monsoon storms can lead to flash floods, posing threats to infrastructure and living things. Although humans can’t completely eliminate natural hazards, we can take steps to reduce their impacts. In this lesson, students will engage in an investigation in order to define problems and brainstorm solutions to the effects of flash floods.
