The Perfect Home

Just like humans, the animals and plants around us are hungry... hungry for energy! The source of most of the energy on Earth comes directly from the Sun. While animals eat plants or other animals for food as their energy sources, plants use the light from the Sun to make their own source of food to get the energy they need to grow and survive. In addition to a source of energy, plants and animals depend on other things in their surroundings to survive, such as, water, shelter and desirable temperatures. These surroundings plants and animals live in that provide them with the necessary resources to grow and survive, are called habitats. In this lesson, students will design and evaluate habitats for the successful survival of certain plants and animals.
