Traveling Through Time

Did you know that you share a state with one of the largest canyons in the world? That’s right, the Grand Canyon is one of the largest canyons in the world, spanning over 200 miles long and 18 miles wide! This beautiful picture shows below the incredible rock formations of a landform called a canyon. Although the Grand Canyon stands tall and mighty today, it’s history tells a different story. For a long time, scientists have been fascinated with and studied how places on Earth’s surface, including the Grand Canyon, have changed over time. Scientists observe fossils, or the preserved remains of organisms that once lived, as clues to tell them the story of these past environments. Join me as we travel back in time to uncover the history of the Grand Canyon in order to answer the question: What did the Grand Canyon’s environment used to be like and how do we know?
