Cells With Purpose!

All living things are made up of one or more cells. Therefore, the basic processes of life are the results of what happens inside cells. Just peek inside cells and you will see a lot of activity! Just like a metropolitan city, cells have different structures, called organelles, that perform specific functions necessary for the operations of life. For example, the organelle called the mitochondria produces energy for the cell, similar to how a city’s electricity provides energy for it’s homes. In this lesson, students will create an analogy relating cell structures and functions to a city’s structures and functions, to demonstrate the relationship between major cell structures and cell functions in both animals and plants.
